Head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart gave a leak about WhatsApp for iPad. "People have been wanting an iPad app for a long time," said Will Cathcart as quoted by The Verge, quoted Monday (31/1/2022). "We would love to do that."
Like Instagram for iPad, WhatsApp for Apple tablets has long gone unnoticed by users despite being a much-requested feature.
"We're doing a lot of work on the technology to support multiple devices," said Will Cathcart, referring to the launch of the multi-device feature for WhatsApp last year.
"WhatsApp Web and our desktop app now have it. If I enable multi-device, I can turn off my phone or lose my network connection and still receive messages on my desktop."
"That would be very important for tablet apps, to be able to use apps even if your phone is off. So the underlying technology is there."
WhatsApp implements end to end encryption to protect the messages that users send, WhatsApp historically hasn't been able to sync chats across devices over the internet like most other messaging apps work.
So, if WhatsApp on mobile doesn't have access to internet, desktop WhatsApp users don't work. The beta version of the multi-device feature lets you user WhatsApp servers in an encrypted way.
Now that such a sync technology exists, there is a high possibility that one of WhatsApp for iPad is finally on the horizon.
