The Palm Springs International Film Society announced that the entire series of film festivals and award ceremonies will be canceled in 2022.

This statement follows an earlier statement that the committee canceled the Palm Springs Film Awards. “Based on the current increase in Covid-19 cases, the Palm Springs International Film Society has announced that the film festival will not take place this year, which was supposed to start January 7-17, 2021.

This follows the cancellation of the film awards on January 6," the statement read.


Organizers feel this is the most responsible decision to ensure the safety of visitors, filmmakers and staff. Those who have purchased festival tickets and entire event tickets will receive a refund.

Then the Palm Springs Short Festival is scheduled to continue on June 21-27, 2022. Festivals and film awards will return to face-to-face events in January 2023.

The film awards will partner with Entertainment Tonight to celebrate this year's awards with details to be announced at a later date. The festival will also continue to announce the award winners from the official jury selection results on January 15 through press releases and social media.

The Palm Springs Film Festival annually screens dozens of films for submission to the Oscars in the foreign language category. Initially, the festival will open with Dionne Warwick: Don't Make Me Over. Last year 2020.

Film festivals and awards were also canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the list of recipients of the 2022 award includes Kristen Stewart, Jane Compion, and Nicole Kidman.
